Funny Lanyard Story

I remember when I got my first lanyard. It was for a huge tradeshow we were presenting at, and the credentials that got you in came on a lanyard. I recall it was pretty plain, but it looked cool with my ID badge hanging from it. Well, my boss had the idea to get some printed up for employees that were going to the show to wear instead of the plain one. There were only about twenty of us, so it didn’t cost him much, but it had the company name and a cool slogan on it.

When I got to the trade show, there was a huge crowd. You had to squeeze yourself in and around the people crowding the booths, so it was slow moving. But what made progress really slow was every time somebody saw my lanyard, they wanted to know where I got it. They thought it was a promotional piece. They kept telling me how cool it looked compared to theirs and they wanted one.

By lunch time, I had been stopped so many times, I called my boss and told him about it. He had five thousand printed up and delivered to the show the next day. My first silicone Bracelet: Words are not always as they appear!

My first silicone wristband was purchased in June of 2005. I was shopping with my mother and little sister at a store in North Carolina. I had been begging for one for a long time, because literally every kid at my school owned one.They had silicone wristbands from every charity, lined up and down their arms and some people wore them on their ankles.

Livestrong bracelets, breast cancer awareness bracelets, child abuse prevention silicone bracelets, were all part of the ones more commonly seen. Then of course there were the silicone bracelets proclaiming ones love for another person, best friend bracelets, and many more. 

I spotted the perfect silicone bracelet inside a popular boutique, and it was on sale for $1.50. It said in bold letters “proud”. That was pretty cheap, and I begged my Mom to buy it for me. She agreed, and I put it on immediately. I wore it proudly all day, and I admired the soft silicone as well as the pretty colors that it was made from. 

The next day at school I wore it out of excitement and showed it off to everyone I knew at school. People were clearly jealous of my wonderful silicone bracelet!

Robbery gone wrong in mall restroom - senior safe

Edmonton, AB – A 76-year old Winnipeg woman was attacked in a mall restroom yesterday afternoon. The incident happened when Margret Richards tried to use the restroom facilities, while her husband was shopping at an electronic store in the mall. Mrs. Richards entered the public restroom alone on the main floor of the mall. It had been raining and she noticed the floor was filthy. She picked a stall, and not wanting to ruin her new purse, hung it on the hook on the stall door. About to start her business, Mrs. Richards noticed a hand coming over the door. It was about to grab her purse. Mrs. Richards was aware that it was not safe to hang items on public restroom door hooks and had kept her umbrella next to her. She hit the hand, which in a reflex, tried to pull back. Unfortunately for the thief, her wristband got caught on the hook. Mrs. Richards screamed for help as loud as she could, while beating on the thieving hand with her umbrella. It attracted the attention of several shoppers, who quickly alerted mall security. Two guards apprehended the thief, who had a badly bruised hand. She was later identified as 17-year old Amanda L. The irony of the story is that Amanda’s pink wristband was imprinted with the word ‘faith.’ Lesson learned! Amanda L. was charged with attempted theft and convicted to one month community service.

Thoughts: 14-05-09The first time that Matt asked me out, we went to an AC/DC concert. I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to go out with Matt since he always seemed so reserved and quiet when he was around me. But, I did want to go see the rock band AC/DC, so I consented to the date. I was ever so wrong about Matt. Right away he bought us some glow sticks and dragged me through the crowd and down towards the front of the stage where everybody was dancing and moving their glow sticks in time to the music. As it turns out, Matt is a wonderful dancer and boy, does he look good with those glow sticks in his hand.
